Interval Madness is a game that will help you learn to quickly recognize intervals all along the guitar neck. Hearing the sound of each interval will also help you to recognize the sound of each interval.
To play the game, click the START button and a countdown timer will begin. Two notes will appear on a guitar fretboard and you will hear the sound of the two notes played together. As quickly as you can, identify the interval between the two notes - is it a major 3rd? Minor 3rd? Major 6th? Major 7th? What is the interval you are seeing on the guitar neck and hearing?
If you’re using a mobile device, tap the appropriate button below the fretboard diagram matching the interval. If you’re using a computer, you might want to use the shortcut keys for example, the number 2 on your keyboard for the “Major 2nd” interval or the “ALT” key and the number 2 for a “Minor 2nd”. All of the shortcut keys are listed on each button.
A correct answer will trigger a newly selected interval. Once the countdown timer reaches zero, you'll be scored according to how many correct answers you get in the time allotted.
Every correct answer gives you 25 points. Every wrong answer takes away 10 points!
Use the numbers on your keyboard to enter the correct interval as you see and hear it played on the fretboard. For minor intervals, use the shift key with the interval number. For example, type the 3 key for a major 3rd and ALT + 3 for a minor 3rd. For a tritone, type the 'T' key and for an octave, type the 8 key. Each button below the fretboard shows a corresponding key or key-combination if you prefer to use your computer keyboard over clicking the buttons with your mouse.
