Tempo Settings in Riff Lab
By Carvel Avis in How-To Guides
When you’re trying to work up a new riff, especially one that’s a little challenging, it’s good to be able to set a slower tempo and play along in time and then slowly adjust the tempo as you’re able to play it a little faster.
Open Settings by clicking the Settings Gear at the top right of Riff Lab then be sure to select “Notation”. Scroll down to the “Tempo” Setting.
This setting is strictly for when you play the riff by itself.
Take a look just below the Tab/Staff area under the track selection menus and the PLAY and REWIND buttons where you see the word, “Play”, “colon” followed by 3 options:
- Riff
- Track
- Both
When you choose, “Riff” the Tempo setting comes into play and it’s the only option that triggers whatever tempo is in the Tempo field in settings.
When you choose “Track”, only the track plays at the track's recorded tempo.
When you choose “Both”, the Tempo setting is ignored because your riff plays with a backing track. So the tempo of the riff is automatically adjusted to match the tempo of the selected track.
That’s it for the Tempo setting!
